Squeaky Wheel Grant Writing

Making noise and providing forward momentum to people on a mission.

I’ve been helping nonprofits and mission-based organizations for more than two decades as staff and consultant. In January 2020, I earned certificates in grant writing and grant writing consulting, and I began doing business as Squeaky Wheel Grants.

I have special interests and expertise in the humanities, literary arts, and historic preservation.

  • Associate of Arts, Historic Preservation, current
  • Certificates in Grant Writing, Grant Writing Consultant, 2020
  • Master of Fine Arts, Writing, 2010

My approach combines qualitative data (in the form of testimonial stories and core experiences) with quantitative data (metrics that highlight your organization’s impact). I want your reader to feel moved to the point of tears three times before they’re done reading your proposal. Goosebumps also qualify.

I am good at this job because I’m an agile and high-impact writer.

As your squeaky wheel, I take on the role of amplifier and make noise for you. I want everyone to know the importance of what you do. I also want you to be heard by influential people who can put their support behind you.

I am a fearless storyteller. I believe that is where real meaning exists, in the individual impacts you make told in story. All the important questions come from story. The people who create and administer foundations in order to keep good work going for generations want to hear those stories.

I look for organizations that are aware of their role to actively support equity, inclusion, and diversity. I believe in telling comprehensive history and rebalancing which projects receive attention and support.

If you need help getting ready to apply for grants, finding good-fit funding opportunities, composing persuasive letters of inquiry and proposals, collecting qualitative data, developing evaluation tools, fine-tuning outcome-based messages, or designing an overall development and fundraising strategy, please get in touch.

Maybe you just want to know how it all works. Where do you find grant opportunities? How soon could your program receive funding? What are your chances of being awarded a grant? Maybe you just need help sitting down to clearly articulate what you do in order to reach a new level of capacity.

I’d like to help you find forward momentum.
